Thanks to my friend Jennifer, I scored free tickets to two events at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival at the Arlington theater this year. I had never been before, so it was a real treat.
I really enjoyed listening to Christopher Plummer (aka Captain von Trapp from The Sound of Music) talk about his experiences in the film industry. It was touching to hear Mike Mills, director of the film The Beginners, give Mr. Plummer an award because he is a Santa Barbara local and was appreciative to be back in his home town.
The second event was with the actors from The Artist, Jean Dujardin (scroll down to see his pictures in GQ posted a few weeks ago by Alex) and Berenice Bejo. Jean and Berenice are as charming in person as they are on screen. Iām sorry to say that the moderator did a terrible job. He only actually asked 2 questions and kept talking about his personal enjoyment of the movie . Nonetheless, I was thrilled to see them because Alex and I loved the movie so much. There was a gorgeous organ that played music during the movie clips, which made the experience that much more authentic and special.
I would definitely recommend going to the Film Festival next year if possible. The tickets are relatively inexpensive and sometimes are given out for free!
